through a glass darkly

Writer: Stephen ClivelyStephen Clively

With the white knuckle ride as to whether Canberra's heat and smoke haze would allow us to proceed with this year's Summer Art Experience now behind us, I am posting a series of drawings and paintings from Peter Griffen's workshop on Colour, Abstraction and Acrylics, the Figure and Still Life.

This was a fantastic class. Peter's teaching based on his long experience in abstract and expressive art was so liberating.

First off some distortion, with a charcoal drawing of Fiona. This is followed by my over-working of the same picture with acrylic paint.

As the classes this year were held in the science labs at Mt Stromlo High School, stylised microscopes and scales - and even the periodic table - are recurring motifs in my art works for the week.
