Liv with energy and economy

I am very pleased that my portrait of Liv was awarded 1st Prize in acrylics at this year's ASOC Spring Exhibition.

The judges - Ruth Waller (former Head of Painting and currently Honorary Associate Professor, ANU School of Art and Design) and Nicola Dickson (Canberra painter also working in drawing, installation, printmaking and ceramics) - said that this work had "Confident handling of media - Broad and energetic brushwork - Economy of means"

Those are very fine comments as they are a good description of what I have been aiming to achieve with my mostly alla prima technique at the 40 minute poses at the ASOC Portrait and Life Workgroup.

"Liv", acrylic on wallpaper coated with mod podge, 70.5 cm by 44 cm.
